A shonky trader who accepted thousands of dollars in payments for high end puppies that were never delivered has been convicted and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service after action taken by South Australia’s consumer watchdog.

Consumer and Business Services commenced action against 26-year old Steven Jongbum-Oh of Medindie after numerous reports he’d accepted deposits for Shiba Inu puppies, but never provided the animals.

The Adelaide Magistrates Court heard he had accepted a total of $51,000 from eight consumers, and strung them along by providing ‘updates’ on potential availability from upcoming litters.

The court heard Jongbum-Oh, a graduate of Rostrevor College, was currently an undischarged bankrupt in receipt of Centrelink and also performing some work as a tutor for year 12 students including students at St Peters and Wilderness.

Jongbum-Oh was convicted on eight counts of wrongfully accepting payment and ordered to undertake 100 hours community service.
