The state’s consumer watchdog has urged consumers to avoid dealing with a Fulham Gardens-based concreter, following numerous consumer complaints.

Matthew Rugolo – who trades under the business names ‘MR Concrete Grinding and Polishing’, ‘Dynamite Concrete Polishing’ and ‘Dynamite Concrete’ – does not hold a licence and is currently facing charges relating to unlicensed building and breaches of the Australian Consumer Law in the Adelaide Magistrates Court.

In addition to the pending charges, Mr Rugolo recently received a $5,000 expiation notice following further investigations by Consumer and Business Services’ Building Industry Response Team.

Despite this, CBS has received information to suggest that he is continuing to contract for building work despite being unlicensed.

Recent complaints involve complaints of substandard work, working without a licence and failing to complete work.

“These are incredibly serious matters and there is a real risk of consumer detriment, which is why CBS is urging consumers to avoid engaging with this individual,” Commissioner for Consumer Affairs Brett Humphrey said.

“We’d also encourage any consumers engaging a trader to carry out any form of building work to check the public licence register to ensure they’re licensed to do the job – because a simple check can help protect consumers from greater losses.”
