The Government of South Australia has today introduced to State Parliament a significant liquor reform, mandating a two-hour minimum pause in the delivery of online alcohol orders.
It’s the first direct legislative response to South Australia’s historic Royal Commission into Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence, which handed down its final report just over a year ago.
The proposed safety measures include:
- the same day delivery of alcohol will be restricted to between 10am and 10pm
- a minimum two-hour safety pause will be introduced between sale and delivery.
These initiatives were developed in response to recommendations 128 and 129 in the Royal Commission’s final report.
In addition, the Liquor Licensing Act 1997 will be amended to reflect the intent of the law to minimise both the harm, and potential for harm, caused by excessive or inappropriate alcohol consumption.
The initiatives are part of broader policy and budget measures announced by the State Government to help address domestic and family violence.
