Consumer and Business Services has issued a public warning about Mr Tyson Hoey, trading as U Pave It, after complaints he is taking deposits and failing to complete work.

Commissioner for Consumer Affairs Paul White says CBS is investigating complaints that people have paid Mr Hoey for supplying and installing landscaping supplies, but then have been unable to contact him.

“Mr Hoey who has also traded as Tyson Paving and Landscaping is not licensed to carry out building work, or advertise for such work under the Building Work Contractors Act 1995,” Mr White said.

“We have received complaints that Mr Hoey has failed to deliver materials or has delivered sub-standard and faulty materials, and has failed to carry out work.

“Consumers complaining about his conduct have largely been from the northern suburbs, but he advertises his services across the metropolitan area.

“Some consumers have got their money back through credit card refunds, but CBS is working with three other complainants who remain out of pocket.

“People carrying out landscaping work such as paving, retaining walls and installation of shade sails are required to be licensed by CBS.

“I would remind consumers that before entering into an agreement for building work, they should always check www.cbs.sa.gov.au to ensure the trader is licensed to carry out building work.

“If consumers have complaints about the actions of Mr Hoey or U Pave It they should contact CBS on 131 882 for assistance.”
