WORK & BUSINESS LICENSES
Public Warnings
16 February 2013

Consumer and Business Services (CBS) has issued a public warning about Precision Pergola’s & Construction Pty Ltd and its director Mr Michael Shane McDonald after complaints that the company is taking deposits and failing to complete work.

Commissioner for Consumer Affairs Paul White says CBS is investigating complaints that people have paid Precision Pergola’s & Construction Pty Ltd to perform minor domestic construction work such as building a pergola or decking, but then have been unable to contact the company.

“Traders carrying out building work such as pergolas and decking, and advertising such services, are required to be licensed by CBS under the Building Work Contractors Act 1995.

“Precision Pergola’s & Construction Pty Ltd does not hold a current building work contractor’s licence and its director, Mr Michael Shane McDonald, does not hold a builder’s licence,” Mr White said.

“We have received complaints that Precision Pergola’s & Construction Pty Ltd has failed to deliver materials or has failed to carry out contracted work.

“Before entering into an agreement for building work, consumers should always check www.cbs.sa.gov.au to ensure the trader is licensed to carry out building work.

“If consumers have complaints about the actions of Precision Pergola’s & Construction Pty Ltd or its director Mr Michael Shane McDonald they should contact CBS on 131 882 for assistance.”

Note: The company’s registered name is Precision Pergola’s & Construction Pty Ltd but it also advertises as Precision Pergolas & Construction.
