Dini Soulio has been appointed as South Australia’s Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, Liquor and Gambling.

Minister for Business Services and Consumers Gail Gago praised the expertise and leadership of Mr Soulio, who has been Acting Commissioner the division for the past three months.

“Dini brings a wealth of experience to the role and I am very pleased to continue working with him,” Ms Gago said.

“His strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge in licensing and regulatory legislation, experience in senior and executive roles and background as a solicitor make him well-placed for this role.”

Mr Soulio’s five-year appointment follows a selection process involving a strong field of local and interstate candidates.

Mr Soulio held regulatory roles with the Australian Customs Service and the Australian Securities and Investments Commission before joining the former Office of Consumer and Business Affairs (OCBA) in May 2009 as Director, Compliance and Enforcement.

He became Deputy Commissioner in Consumer and Business Services in June 2012 before taking up the position of Acting Commissioner in April this year following the retirement of Commissioner Paul White.

“I appreciate Dini’s commitment to providing accessible services and information whilst protecting the interests of consumers and businesses,” Ms Gago said.

“I have relied on his knowledge of the intricacies of consumer services, liquor and gambling and am confident he is the ideal candidate to continue leading this division.”

“Since joining the agency, Dini has personally overseen the merger of OCBA and Office of the Liquor and Gambling Commissioner to form CBS. He also conducted a major review of licensing operations to clear backlogs and reduce waiting times for occupational licensing,” Ms Gago said.

“I am confident that Dini will provide leadership at the state’s consumer watchdog to ensure that laws affecting consumers, traders and businesses in South Australia are fairly and effectively administered.

“The Agency went through major restructures in recent years and I’m sure will have a renewed focus under Dini’s leadership,” Ms Gago said.
